About Goa Water Resources Information
System (GoaWRIS)

A comprehensive GIS enabled facility has been set up, with support from the World Bank, and data has to be transferred to the NWIC – while a lot of data capture through RTDAS shall reach there directly. Station information, historical data however, would still need to be validated and provided by the Department, and it is also important that besides showing information on a map, the Department does make use of this data to enable decisions.

The department needs to create and automate a central database system for realtime data monitoring of surface and ground water, water quality, other water related data and information acquisition and also disseminate to administrators, planners, line departments in the state, central Govt and citizens to strengthen Water resources planning, operation and management. Ideally, the system should also bring awareness for transparent water accounting and availability, and provide a validated resource base for future initiatives, including preparation of water security plans, farmer support through timely data and advisories leading to sustainable water management

This data is catalogued and stored for future retrieval in a denormalised, optimisied format. In addition, a decision support system provides key statistics and information through tabular, graphical and spatial formats to the key stakeholders.

Essentially, the complete system runs on the Department server, helping the Department validate and use their data, and specific portions get transferred, along with telemetry data, to the NWIC server to provide th entire picture for India.
